Starting on August 29, 2025, the United States is eliminating its $800 de minimis exemption, meaning most goods imported into the US will be subject to customs duties and taxes regardless of their value, a change that will affect US customers purchasing from international sellers.
There is no single percentage for the import tax, as it will vary depending on the type of goods being imported, but you can expect potentially higher costs and longer delivery times for shipments after this date. What is the Change?
- De Minimis Exemption Ends: The current rule allows goods valued under $800 to enter the US without paying import taxes and duties.
- New Rule: From August 29, 2025, this exemption will be removed.
- Impact: All orders shipped into the US, regardless of their value, will now be subject to import taxes and duties.
